Accuracy assessment: 50 polygons interpreted as D3 on aerial photographs were field checked.  24 remained D3.  4 each were revised to D23, D34, D4 and upland.  3 each were revised to D32 and D2.  1 each was revised to K23 and SS. 2 were revised to K3.

D3 is the most common and widespread depression map component, both as a monotypic wetland and in complex with other components, especially D2 and D4.  D3 is a Depression Ecosystem component with a deeper water table (below the surface, but still meeting the 1987 Army Corps criteria for a wetland), often dominated by shrubs.  It is found over the entire lowland project area.  Bluejoint grass (Calamagrostis canadensis) and thick sphagnum moss also indicate D3.  D3 is commonly part of a complex between the forested margins of a depression, and the wetter sedge dominated center.

In Homer, a single wetland has been  mapped as D3d.  It is a wetland that was D3, but is now disturbed.
