T0 map components are bare mud surfaces of estuaries and lagoons.  Creeping alkaligrass (Puccinellia phyganodes), which dominates map component T2, is frequently the first plant to dominate gently sloping mudflats.  The first plants to occur where gradients are steeper, are seaside arrowgrass and goosetongue (T3).

Tidally exposed bare mud is found at the mouths of rivers and larger streams, in a lagoon north of Nikiski, and along the Homer Spit.
