Wetland Classification and Mapping of the Kenai Lowland, Alaska
Map Unit Descriptions Ecosystem: Riparian Map Unit: RAA
Extent: 5 wetland polygons; 1.5 ha; 0.00% of wetland area; 0.00% of wetland polygons. |
|
An RAA waterfall into Kachemak Bay west of Bishop's Beach, near Homer (polygon 50524).
The mouth of an RAA stream just east of Fritz Creek, two years after a large flooding event (polygon 33237). |
Wetland Indicators No data for RA streams Type: Stream Average depth to water table: n/a. Organic layer thickness: n/a Average depth to redoximorphic features: n/a Common Soils: Common Plant communities: NWI: R3US1 HGM: High Gradient Natural Stream-single thread waterfalls. |
| Accuracy assessment: 2 polygons interpreted as RAA on aerial photographs were field checked. Both remained RAA. | |
RAA units are Rosgen's (1996) 'AA' streams: steep gradient waterfalls. Only a few RAA streams occur in the Kenai Lowlands Project area, mostly draining steep bluffs into Kachemak Bay. These streams qualify as jurisdictional wetlands only along the watercourse and a very narrow strip alongside it. Most RAA reaches are too short to be mapped separately.
