Accuracy assessment: 39 polygons interpreted as SLS on aerial photographs were field checked.  30 remained SLS.  3 were revised to upland; 2 were revised to SL, 1 each was revised to AMT, LB64, RB and Rea.

33 polygons interpreted as SSL on aerial photographs were field checked.  22 remained SSL.  2 each were revised to LB64, SC and SS; 1 each was revised to: DW5A5, K2-4, K4, LB46 and Rea.

SLS and SSL are the Discharge Slope Ecosystem complexes dominated by Lutz spruce (Picea X lutzii) and Barclay willow (Salix barclayii).  If spruce is more abundant the unit is named SLS, and if willow predominates, SSL.  These are common foot- and toe-slope units south of Clam Gulch.  They occur on a variety of landforms, generally adjacent to a break in the slope: terrace tread edges, kame bases and at the edges of large and small peatlands.  Generally, willow is more abundant at higher elevations, but it can also dominate on exceptionally wet stream valley wall foot-and toe-slopes.

In Homer, the name SLSd refers to a wetland that was SLS but is now disturbed.
