| Accuracy assessment: 102 polygons interpreted as LB6 on aerial photographs were field checked. 69 remained LB6; 7 were revised to LB62; 6 were revised to SL; 3 were revised to LB64; 2 each were revised to LB26, SM and upland; 1 each was revised to: DW2-5A, DW35A, DW5A, LB56, Rel, SAL, SG and WU. | |
LB6 is the forested map component on Relict Glacial Lakebed Ecosystems. The forest is often black spruce (Picea mariana), but south of Ninilchik, Lutz spruce (P. X lutzii) is common on peatlands. This component either borders upland or a broad, wet, forested Discharge Slope Ecosystem. LB6 components occur on a flat lakebed surface, often adjacent to surrounding slopes, occupying the zone where the organic soil thins.
This is the third most abundant component in the project area. It commonly occurs both by itself, and in complex with other components, especially the shrubby component (LB4).
