Sphagnum moss - Ericaceous shrub

Bog blueberry – Dwarf birch – Tufted hairgrass

Black spruce / Labrador tea

LB5 component:

Bluejoint / Dwarf birch

Sweetgale - Bluejoint

Bluejoint - Field horsetail

Accuracy assessment: 1 polygon interpreted as LB45 on aerial photographs was field checked.  It was revised to LB24.

None of the polygons interpreted as LB54 on aerial photographs were field checked.

These are small, rare complexes, with scanty information.  They occur on the Relict Glacial Lakebed Ecosystem as a mixture of the shrubby component (LB4), which is common, and the infrequent bluejoint grass (Calamagrostis canadensis) dominated lakebed component (LB5).  Where bluejoint is more abundant the unit is named LB54, and where the shrubby component predominates it is named LB45.  Bluejoint grass is often found in areas that have been disturbed, or where the groundwater has been in recent contact with mineral soil.  One of the mapped units is disturbed, near a created pond along Kalifonsky Beach Road, while at least four others are at the edges of peatland complexes, near a mineral soil groundwater source.
